As 2014 appears to be the age of drones, it’s actually really surprising that nobody has invented a bartending drone until Yanko Design:
The adorable little drone above is known as the Yura, a robot that mixes and then fills in your drinks by swooping above the heads of the crowd. The Yura can make any drink you want, from tea and coffee to complicated cocktails. The adorable little drone, which was designed by Yanko Designs and shortlisted for this year’s Electrolux Design Lab competition, mixes together the perfect measure of ingredients in order to create your perfect drink. (It’s also programmed to mix drinks with an appropriate amount of calories, if you’re feeling particularly health conscious).
The Yura comes with Wi-Fi, naturally, as well as navigational capabilities and the ability to recognize and respond to voice commands—so, while it might not be able to actually cart you home from the bar, it can at least call the cab for you. It can also download software and check your email, two services not commonly conducted by your traditional human bartenders.
Another advantage to being served by a drone bartender—dronetender?—would be that it comes with the ability to hover nearby, so there’s no need to shout when you need a refill.
Designed with the capability to use kinetic energy to recharge its own batteries, the Yura is also extremely energy efficient, which may be one of the reasons it’s on Electrolux’s Top 35 Semi-Finalists list.
If for some reason you are still not convinced of the Yura’s merit, I should mention that you could get one that looks like Darth Vader. You could own a flying Darth Vader drone that can mix your drinks and check your email at the same time.
Look at the image and tell me you don’t want two hundred of them:
