If you ever find yourself lost in the wilds, with no hope of contacting rescue—meaning the smartphone you probably have in your hand failed you—you’d probably feel a lot better with the Recon 6 watch strapped to the other wrist. The watch actually opens up to reveal a mini, but highly useful survival kit.
Advertised as a “14-in-1 adventure and survival” watch, the Recon 6 comes with everything from a compass to a can opener. There’s fishing line, a fire-starter, a whistle, a flashlight, and a signal mirror, as well as seven other tools for survival all tucked behind its timepiece. Just pop up the watch’s face.
Naturally, the watch is a little more bulky than your traditional timekeepers—twice as thick, in fact, but at least if it’s strapped to your wrist you’ll be more than prepared for emergencies.
The watch is currently being crowdfunded via Kickstarter, where you can purchase one for $275. The creators are hoping to retail the Recon 6 at around $500, if it ever actually gets on the shelves: this is their Kickstarter campaign’s last day, and they’re nowhere near their financial goal.
If you’re not a fan of the Recon 6, you could always just pack your own survival kit into an Altoids tin. Always nice to have options.
