All the iPhone 6 rumors to make your mouth water until its September 9 release

Rumors of a new iPhone announcement coincide with iPhone release dates of the past two years

According to John Paczkowski – the man known as one of the most reliable sources of Apple insight – Apple will be hosting an iPhone event on September 9 to unveil the iPhone 6. If correct, this date falls approximately one year after the iPhone 5C and 5S were revealed on Tuesday, September 10, and two years after the iPhone 5 was released on Wednesday, September 12. We’ll know for certain in a few short weeks, but in the meantime, here’s a list of the rumors most likely to be true.

Bigger screen
Sonny Dickson – another bloke whose leaks are always accurate – leaked images on his Twitter account a few months ago claiming Apple would start producing iPhone 6 models with screens measuring 4.7 inch and 5.5 inch. This notion certainly fits with the smartphone trend of the last few years that bigger is better (thanks Samsung).

Another screen-related rumor floating around indicates the possibility that the glass will be made of transparent crystal sapphire. Recent events suggest that this rumor may be fact: Apple struck a deal with GT Advanced a few months prior to operate a sapphire crystal manufacturing facility it had acquired. This is further confounded by an export record revealing that GT Advanced acquired Intego Sirius Sapphire Display Inspect components.

Two more leaks, one from Sonny Dickson and the other from the French publication No Where Else , suggest the iPhone 6 chassis borrows some industrial design features from the first-generation iPhone.

Internal hardware
Information surrounding the internal hardware of the iPhone 6 is less conclusive. One series of reports showcases what could be the iPhone 6’s PCB. While the logic board bears a stark resemblance to that of the 5s, it’s logical to assume the iPhone’s board will be equip with a more robust A8 processor. What’s more, a new series of photos from China – presumably from outsource manufacturers – imply the logic board will support 802.11ac Wi-Fi as well as near-field communication (NFC) tech as well.

iOS 8
The iOS 8 update will be available to all iPhones proceeding the iPhone 4 and include a slew in neat features. Amongst these is the HealthKit API and accompanying Health app. The API enables developers to create health- and fitness-tracking apps synchronized with a central database on the iPhone. This means that anytime you get digital data from your hospital containing, say, your blood pressure and such, the iPhone will automatically receive this data too. The data – which is stored privately – can be seamlessly shared with other doctors and clinics if you so choose.

Another sensational feature called “Extension” lets apps communicate with one another, enabling developers to program apps with specific toolkits for other apps such as a translating tool that can be used with foreign content across other apps.

Other useful news iOS 8 features includes a new keyboard enhancement that learns to predicts words you may want to use based on the contact your texting; continuity, a method of seamlessly transitioning your content between iPhone and iMac; airdrop, a drop-box style networked drive between iPhone and iMac; the ability to send text messages directly to the Mac and create a central message database; iMessage, which has been upgraded to allow the muting of individual conversations; an always-on Siri with Shazam integration; and much more.

Predictions aside, what we do know for certain is that Apple releases a new iPhone number series every other year and 2014 is due for the iPhone 6. Given that just a few days ago, Android surpassed iOS in mobile usage for the first time ever, it would appear that Apple is under a great deal of urgency to live up to the “i” in iPhone: innovation.
