If there’s one thing FCI knows, it’s interconnect solutions. The international connector and assembly solutions manufacturer features one of the industry’s broadest portfolios of products and designs specific to this technology. As a result, designers use their interconnect parts across several different market applications, including automotive motorized vehicles, telecommunications, data storage, consumer electronics, medical, industrial, and renewable energy.
One of the company’s more exciting products is its board-to-board connector, RotaConnect. You see, there are four types of board-to-board connectors out there: mezzanine, perpendicular, coplanar, and angled.
RotaConnect is able to cover three of these: perpendicular, coplanar, and angled.
The reason why is that RotaConnect features a hermaphroditic “mates to itself” design. This allows the connector to mate under any angle between +90° and -60° and therefore be placed anywhere on the PCB. What’s more, RotaConnect features a reliable dual-beam contact, and can support several different mating and unmating directions.
Some other features worth noting:
• Available in two and four positions
• Hold down for PCB retention
• Pins are protected by housing
• Floating and rotation possible
• High-temperature material for reflow-type processes
• RoHS compliant
As for the physical, mechanical, and electrical specs:
• Housing: High temperature thermoplastic UL-94-V0
• Contact: Copper alloy
• Plating: GXT or tin over nickel
• Durability : ¬20 mating cycles
• Operating temperature: -40° to +125°C
• Current rating: up to 5 A
• Operating voltage: 125 V
The RotaConnect is obviously ideal for use on control boards, but can also be used in sensors, actuators, LED strips, incandescent lighting strips, automotive lighting, channel lettering, and more.
