Close behind South Korea are Hong Kong, Switzerland, and Japan, who each saw average speeds of about 15 Mbps. With an average connection speed of 11.4 Mbps, the United States ranked 14th , which is still above the global average of 4.6 Mbps. To give an example on what these speeds mean, at 10 Mbps it would take about 50 minutes to download a two hour movie in HD quality.

Akamai forecasted that the Global Average Connection Speed is sure to reach, and perhaps overtake, at least 4Mbps before the end of the year.
