The toilet gadget that may save marriages

Clip-on motion-detecting LED light illuminates toilet bowl to aid aim

LED Toilets

On behalf of females everywhere, we salute you Mr. Matt Alexander, for creating what must be considered one of the best inventions since sliced bread. Alexander, a 23-year-old from Provo, UT, recently unveiled the “IllumiBowl,” an LED-lit toilet bowl that supposedly ensures men will never miss their mark in the middle of the night again.

Water-resistant LED lights use motion-sensing technology to automatically turn on and off when someone enters and leaves the bathroom. On its default setting, the lights alternate between orange, blue, green, red, purple and white every few seconds, but users also have the option to set the device to their preferred color through the simple click of a small switch on the IllumiBowl. The lights clip onto the toilet just beneath the seat in order to illuminate the entire toilet bowl.

Alexander said he was inspired to invent the IllumiBowl because he “hated turning the bathroom light on in the middle of the night.” He also indicated he thought his creation could “save a lot of marriages.”

While the 2-inch device does require two AAA batteries, the LED is expected to last for more than 11 years. Alexander has also indicated that another model is under development that includes a germ-killing UV LED light.

Nearly 3,000 backers have already supported the IllumiBowl on KickStarter, raising more than $82,000 for the campaign, which was originally aiming for a $20,000 investment. The campaign lasts through November 26, and backers can pre-register to get their very own IllumiBowl for as little as $15.
