Motor control 101: How to ensure your motor drive is highly accurate

Avago Technologies provides manufacturers with the components necessary to ensure accuracy

Industrial-based motor technologies like robots in manufacturing and process industries require a higher than normal level of motor control. This is accomplished via a system that gives feedback from the motor to the system’s MCU to improve things like the machine’s positioning, pathway, etc.

The system taking in the information and feeding it to the MCU is made up of a bevy of sensors and components, produced by specialists like Avago Technologies. The California-based company provides industrial robot manufacturers with a wide range of motion control optical encoders that meet the most stringent of positioning and velocity requirements for industrial motor applications.

Here’s a closer look at some of the parts that Avago Technologies has to offer this technology sector:

Avago AEAT-9000 : An all-in-one, single-turn absolute encoder that supports 17-bit resolution with ±1 step code monotony, 500-kHz 2048-CPR Sine/Cosine output, and incremental 2048-CPR digital output. It incorporates a new LED regulation with an error output pin designed specifically for monitoring LED degradation and a Zero_RST pin that’s used to set the encoder’s start position to any position.

The AEAT 9000 is designed as a modular package and so can be directly integrated on the motor, thereby simplifying the overall motor system design and enhancing its total performance.

Avago HRPG Axxx#xxF : A family of miniature panel-mount rotary switches specially designed for rotary control and data entry purposes. There are several options available, including detent or smooth rotation, multiple terminations, and versatile mounting capabilities.

Avago AEDR-87xx : A series of 3-channel reflective optical encoder devices. This particular roster of encoders features low-supply-voltage options, dual analog / digital output options, and 318-LPI encoding resolution. All devices in this particular family are packaged in the industry’s smallest form factor, which, in turn, makes them ideal for low-power space-constrained applications.
