We’ve all been here before — you open the box of holiday decorations and discover that somehow, someway, the lights and wire you so carefully wrapped last year have become a big, jumbled knot that will require two, if not three, cups of egg nog to untangle.
Fortunately, there’s a new project on Kickstarter right now that just might do away with this particular holiday headache. Referred to as the Aura system, this particular brand of Christmas light bulb glow sans wire; instead, it sources its power from a magnetic “power ring” to wirelessly illuminate the LED light within each bulb.
The ring’s range extends about five feet, and it can be set up either at the base of the tree or suspended within the branches of the tree itself.
The Aura ring is able to power up to 100 individual bulb and if the tree is extra large, two rings can be used, to power up to 200 bulbs.
The power ring is the only thing that needs to be plugged into the wall, thereby allowing the owner to place his / her bulbs wherever they fit best. Each bulb is designed to last 20 years, and at the moment, they’re available in white or multicolor sets, with clear, frosted, or cracked glass design.
A $69 pledge on Kickstarter will secure you a power ring and set of 12 bulbs when the first units are shipped in October 2015. When the Aura System officially hits the shelves, the design team expects the technology to retail for about twice that price.
