Optical based archive system holds 638 Tbytes

The Data Archiver LB-DH8 scalable optical disc library system supports data center demand for long-term storage. The base module can house up to 76 data archiver magazines that store 1.2 Tbytes each. A maximum of 91.2 Tbytes can be stored in each module. Each 19-in. rack holds seven modules, creating storage of 638.4 Tbytes.

The system has a magazine that holds optical discs and three types of modules: bottom (magazine carrier), base (magazine recording and playback unit), and expansion module (magazine loader). RAID is used for reliable data transfer up to 216 Mbytes/s, and the optical disc storage life is 50 years. Standby power consumption is only 7 W.
