Thermal protection for Li batteries targets ultra-thin devices

The MHP-TAM series features a 5.8 x 3.85 x 1.15-mm package size with a 9-Vdc rating. The devices offer two levels of hold currents: low-current (approximately 6 A at 25°C) and high-current (approximately 15 A at 25°C).The device provides a resettable thermal cutoff (TCO) solution that helps designers meet the demanding peak-current requirements of consumer products.

The metal hybrid polymeric positive temperature coefficient (PPTC) technology device combines a bimetal protector in parallel with a PPTC device. In battery applications it provides resettable over-temperature protection to shut down the battery when a fault is detected. The devices feature different open temperatures, ranging from 72° to 90°C (typical), which are appropriate for the battery market. The series complies with the UL, cUL and CB quality and safety standards.
