For whatever reason, there are plenty of kids— and adults— in the world that get a kick out of passing gas. These days there’s an app or device for everything— even flatulence.
Check out these five times technology and farts hit it off.
1. CH4: The device that measures your farts and helps reduce their frequency
You can find CH4 on Kickstarter where the campaign has about 12 days remaining. The wearable device attaches to your belt or slips into your pocket to measure your gases and tell you which foods to avoid. CH4 is equipped with a circuit board interfaced with sensors that include a Bluetooth Low Energy module and the team has developed an algorithm that detects gases on the board. The device works with an app so you can keep track of the foods you eat.
2. Fart Code App
The Fart Code app is available for free and helps educate kids about nutrition in a fun way buy scanning food bar codes to discover their “far power.”
3. Gas-sniffing pills
Electrical engineers from RMIT University in Australia have created tiny pill-like encasements equipped with tiny sensors so that when a patient swallows it, it can sniff out the digestive system and determine what kinds of gas the person is producing such as oxygen, methane or hydrogen sulfide. The data collected from the pill’s sensors could be transmitted to an app or computer program for analysis.
4. Robot that can detect farts
A while back ElectronicProducts.com brought you the story of the methane-gas-sniffing robot that could theoretically smell farts. Researchers from Sweden’s AASS Research Center created the robot to monitor methane leaks within a landfill located in an underground tunnel but the robot could potentially be used to detect the scent of a fart.
5. Sensors detect cow flatulence
ElectronicProducts.com also told you about the sensors that were being used to measure cows’ bodily functions as a method of curbing the methane gases a cow releases and reduce the intensity of methane emissions.
