Kuhmo’s Maxplo tires will be adaptable to suit any driving condition

These tires in the works with year-round grip will transform in order to be suitable to drive in anything.

Tires are one of the most important parts on a vehicle. If it snows or rains and the grip is lacking, you skid. It can be quite terrifying, which is why Kuhmo is working to get rid of this problem by introducing its Maxplo tires.

The tire, designed to switch to a variety of surface configurations, will suit all weather conditions from dry roads to snow-covered roads. It will feature tread blocks that adjust to adapt to any condition. In order to rid away the contact patch between the vehicle and road and to prevent hydroplaning, the tire is designed with three dimensional grooves. These grooves are strategically placed using computer simulations to check the pattern’s performance.

If off-roading occurs, the intersectional tread blocks will move apart, opening up the tire’s footprints, increasing traction. Even for the worst snow and ice conditions, Maxplo has an answer. The tire contains spikes for ultimate traction and safety, which are hidden beneath the tread blocks.

The final technological beneficiary the tire offers is a hydrogen fuel-powered electric hub motor, which will be used to make both the car and tire eco-friendly, according to Kuhmo. It is set to measure 700 x 700 x 250 mm (27.5 x 27.5 x 9.8 in) and weigh 12 kg (26.4 lb).

“While Maxplo may not be hitting our roads in the near future, many of its concepts will flow into tire design over the next few years, and the overall concept will continue to be refined with a view to one-day offering tires such as this to consumers,” says David Basha, Kumho Tyre Australia manager of marketing and training.

These almost invincible tires will definitely have an impact on the future of driving once they are released. As for now, some of these concepts will most likely be adapted into near future designs, and I’m sure we’re all for it.
