As many apps as there are for Android and iOS, it’s sometimes difficult to filter through and find the best ones to download. Here is a list of some new and updated favorites you need.

Capitan

Capitan is an intelligent grocery shopping assistant, free for iOS and Android, which aims to make your shopping list smarter through suggestions, collaborative editing, and real-time reminders.

To use the app, add items to your list and it will automatically organize them into categories that should be grouped together such as cheeses, grains, sweets, etc. You can share grocery lists with multiple friends and family members, who will be alerted when you enter the store and are able to add items they want to the list. As you use Capitan more and more, the app will predict items you may need based on what you buy frequently.

Great Big Story

Though the app is backed by CNN, it focuses predominantly on historical short stories, profiles, and features other than just news. The app offers a collection of stories and themed playlists you can scroll through. You can favorite stories you wish to watch again or later to easily find them when you go back. The company behind the app also puts out a newsletter everyday so you can see popular trending stories in email form.

Launchify

Launchify

Free for only Android, Launchify recommends apps based on the ones you’re likely to need at the moment. It puts a row of shortcuts on your lock screen and notification center. The suggested apps may change throughout the day based on your location and habits. For example, you may see Maps pop up when you get ready to leave work. Since the app detects behavior, its recommendations will improve over time.

Trivial Pursuit

Trivial Pursuit

As the original social trivia game, Trivial Pursuit is now an app, free for iOS and Android, that allows others to compete head-to-head in trivia matchups within different categories. The game has two main modes: Duel and Blitz. A duel puts two players against each other in six rounds of games – you can either challenge people you know or the app can randomly select another player. A Blitz on the other hand is a faster group match with as many as three other players completing in speedy rounds. Tip: The more games you win, the more power-ups you can unlock such as extra time, re-spins, and tips from other players.

Waze

Waze

Free for iOS and Android, Waze is a navigation system that warns you if police are ahead and informs you of any accidents and hazards along your destination. It allows you to check alternative routes or share an ETA from the drop-down menu.

The app has a refreshed design and new features that make it easier to use. It is now easier to sync your calendar with the app to alert you when you need to leave to make it to your next appointment on time.
