2 paparazzi allegedly break into the Tesla Gigafactory, assault employees with vehicle

Incident leads to two counts of felony with a deadly weapon

Tesla Gigafactory

The Tesla Gigafactory acts like something of a bug light, with paparazzi seemingly unable to resist its allure, so much so that many find themselves breaking in for a closer inspection. Trespassing, or attempted trespassing, is apparently quite common, but a recent incident was anything other than routine: it ended in two counts of felony with a deadly weapon as well as the standard trespassing charge.

Wait, what? Going way beyond the call of duty, two reporters wearing Reno Gazette Journal ID badges climbed over a fence with “private property” sign tacked atop. Soon after, a plant employee confronted the pair, demanding their identification. Refusing to cooperate, the pair made to flee before the plant’s safety manager intercepted them, stating the Sheriff’s Department was notified of their presence.

Here’s where things got juicy: instead of submitting, the two reporters dashed to their jeep in hopes of fleeing. Meanwhile, one of the Tesla employees followed, attempting to quickly jot down the license plate. But instead of driving away (presumably through the fence), the reporters reversed into the employee. If it wasn’t bad enough, the jeep then accelerated into the second employee as he was approaching the vehicle, hitting him in the waist.

The erratic behavior left both Tesla employees injured, with the one who was reversed into suffering from two arm lacerations. The second employee’s injuries are unclear at this point. The two Reno Gazette employees were soon arrested.

Apparently this was not the first time this particular newspaper sought entry into the Gigafactory. Maybe they know something we don’t, like how Elon Musk may be covertly using the plant to orchestrate world peace a la The Watchmen ’s Ozymandias.
