As 3D printers become more popular, the devices are a necessity for the “maker” as they allow the creation of unique 3D objects in a variety of plastics. For many, the next gadget to add to the workshop would be a CNC machine, but few own one due to their hefty price and large size. But what if there were an affordable CNC machine to make metal creations?
Maker Dreams, a Kickstarter-funded project, has unveiled the EVO-One CNC machine. Although it’s not exactly dirt cheap, priced at $1,962, the EVO-One comes equipped with noteworthy features that are sure to enhance your projects.
The wood and metal-based EVO has a polymethylmethacrylate cover which not only will look sharp in the office or shop, but will also keep those spaces tidy. Underneath its protective shield is an impressive workspace. The Maker Dreams team examined that most of its competitors had extremely small milling areas, so it made the EVO with a generous 370x220x120h mm work space.
A brushless motor supported by five ball bearings that can spin from 3000 to 22,000 RPM is what does the milling work and at the tip, is a chuck that can support 1mm-7mm bits for a range of options.
The EVO-One was designed from the outset to be able to chew its way through several materials including, plastic, acrylic, PVC, polyethylene, HDPE, Corian, Delrin, maple, mahogany, walnut, pine, MDF, plywood, balsa or cork, aluminum, copper, brass, silver, gold, circuit boards, glass fiber, g10, carbon, linoleum, waxes, and foams.
