Introducing Facebook Sports Stadium, just in time for the Super Bowl

A place to experience sports in real-time with the rest of the world.

Social-media giant Facebook has unveiled Sports Stadium, a dedicated digital platform to experience sports in real-time with your friends and the rest of the world. With 650 million sports fans, it is the world’s largest stadium. Several currently turn to Facebook to celebrate or trash talk with their friends and other fans the outcome of a game.

Now, Facebook has built a place devoted to sports, where fans can get the feeling of watching the game with a large group of people even when they aren’t together. The new stadium places all content on Facebook related to a particular game in one location in real-time, appearing chronologically.

It allows you to see posts from your friends and their comments on certain plays; posts and commentary from experts such as teams, leagues, and journalists with access to their pages; live scores, statistics, and play-by-play; and game information such as where to find the game on TV.

Facebook Sports Stadium lets you follow the action of the game as it unfolds with a live play-by-play, and you can like, comment, or share individual plays. You’ll be provided with live scores and the most discussed plays, giving you a second-screen experience intended to make watching the broadcast much more engaging.

To access Facebook Sports Stadium, you simply search for the game; additional avenues of getting there will be unveiled once the product evolves, according to the company. As sports are a global interest that connects people around the world, the intended goal for this tool is to make it fun and engaging for fans.

The company has already rolled out American football games with plans to support other sports around the world such as basketball and soccer soon. Available now on the iPhone in the U.S., Facebook Sports Stadium will be expanded to other platforms in the next few weeks.
