Video of the Day: Watch this man ride a homemade hoverbike

YouTuber Colin Furze makes a hoverbike and lives to tell about it.

Right when we think we’ve seen it all – anything from hoverboards on wheels, on water, or even ones that actually fly – now here comes another mad invention: the hoverbike.

YouTuber Colin Furze, who is most famous for his jet-powered bicycle, homemade Wolverine claws, and most recent thermite launcher, developed his first-ever flying project per a fan request. He created a rideable, seatless, brake-less hoverbike, which is powered by two motorized propellers in place of where the wheels would be.

In the video below, he shows the bike off in short bursts, so we’re not sure if you can actually fly it down to the local grocery store. While it’s larger, noisier, and of course more dangerous than a standard bicycle, Furze makes going for a ride on it seem like a ton of fun.

He assembled the hoverbike together with parts supplied by Ford, documenting the entire process, from choosing what to make, gathering the necessary materials, constructing it, and riding it. The project took roughly five weeks to put together.

Furze noted that it took four flying sessions to really get the hang of riding the bike after finishing the final design.

“It's all on getting the engines running the same speed and how you position yourself,” he said.

For Furze’s first flying invention, the hoverbike seems successful. As for building more flying contraptions, he said he does see more airborne adventures in his future.
