The diode phase-leg module product portfolio of IXYS has expanded its product line adding a record current rating in Y4 package outline (34 mm). It features an improved temperature and power cycling, as well as very low forward voltage drop and very low leakage current.
The Y4 (34 mm) package is an IXYS DCB based module with the highest performance in thermal behavior and power density. A wide range of controlled and uncontrolled rectifiers for one and three phase applications are already provided by IXYS in that housing class.
This latest addition to the portfolio of diode phase-legs in an Y4 (34 mm) package outline offers a drastic improvement in current density. Until now the most powerful diode phase-leg offered in a 34 mm package type provides a permanent current of 224 A at a case temperature of 100⁰C. With the new IXYS 34 mm modules, this value increases by 25% to 280 A. This results in the highest power density in the package range of 34 mm housings available in the market and can be used as an alternative to several diode phase-leg types in the next bigger package class, the Y1 (50 mm).
“The newly launched diode phase-leg modules will provide our customers with a powerful solution allowing them to save costs in several ways in addition to the cost efficient module itself. As a replacement to 50 mm modules, the smaller package outline of the 34 mm module gives the design engineers several opportunities for space reduction or better arrangements in their applications in order to reduce overall system costs. Another positive effect is the reduced system weight compared to similar products with copper base plates,” states Dr. Elmar Wisotzki, Director of Technology at IXYS Germany.
