Dell introduces a 43-inch 4K monitor capable of splitting into four independent 1080p panels

Dell’s P4317Q can display up to four separate desktops, each at 1080p.

Multi-monitor desktops are often desired for professional computer users and gamer fanatics looking for an immersive widescreen experience, but setting them up can prove to be difficult. Experts recommend using three of the same display to minimize any problems related to mixing and matching different resolutions and avoid differences in color gamut and calibration.

But now Dell is here to solve any issues related to setting up multi-monitor desktops. Its new P4317Q (also known as the Dell 43 Multi-Client Monitor) is a 43-inch 4K screen equipped with dual 8W speakers that can run a single monitor at 3840×2160 or display up to four separate desktops, each at 1080p. Notably, the P4317Q was designed to be energy efficient. By combining four screens into one display, the Dell 43 Multi-Client Monitor provides a 30 percent energy consumption savings.

P4317Q also includes an RS232 port for remote management, DisplayPort 1.2, miniDisplayPort, dual HDMI 1.4 ports, a legacy VGA 15-pin DSUB, and a four-port USB 3.0 hub. The 4K monitor can accept input from multiple sources simultaneously; if you had four separate systems to control, you could run all four from the same monitor at the same time by using the appropriate video ports on each system. It is unclear whether or not the Enhanced Dell Display Manager offers any KVM support or if you would need to provide that via separate peripherals.

The Dell P4317Q monitor, available for $1,349.99, can be purchased here.
