The LTC4013 high-voltage multi-chemistry synchronous step-down battery charger controller offers an input voltage range up to 60 V. The battery charger uses temperature-compensated three- and four-stage charge algorithms to charge 12-V and 24-V lead-acid batteries. Alternatively, it can charge a multi-cell Lithium-based battery stack with float voltages near the input supply. Mode pins define the float voltage and charge algorithm. Charge current is precision regulated to ±5% and programmable with a single resistor up to 20 A.
What makes this significant is its versatility for charging options and battery chemistries. It supports float, absorption, and equalization lead-acid and constant-current/constant-voltage Li-ion charging algorithms. The battery charger controller supports vented and sealed lead-acid batteries, as well as Li-ion, Li-polymer, LiFePO4, NiMH, and NiCd. That means you only need one controller for your battery designs. A bonus feature is maximum power point tracking (MPPT) input voltage regulation for applications like solar panels. It features user-adjustable MPPT circuitry that enables simple power optimization in the case of power-limited sources such as solar panels. The MPPT open-circuit method corrects for panel temperature changes without adding a solar panel temperature sensor.
