Google’s new Pixels phone will be fastest Android ever

This may be the iPhone competitor we’ve been waiting for.

While almost all of the smartphone announcements we have been anticipating have arrived, there is one more family of devices we’re anxious to see. The Galaxy Note 7 and iPhone 7 have already officially been announced, but Google’s 2016 Nexus devices that will do without the Nexus branding are still in production and should launch next month.

New reports indicate that the Pixel (Sailfish) and Pixel XL (Marlin) will be the fastest Android phones ever. Additionally, the devices may be the only Android handsets to ship with the updated Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor on board in the United States. Pixel phones will have exclusive Google support, software features, and financing options.

The new reports confirm what we’ve seen before, but also reveal that the Sailfish will be equipped with a USB-C port rather than one of the microUSB variants that are being phased out. Also, not previously seen are the dual speakers, which are both placed behind two rectangular holes bordering the USB-C port on the bottom of the handset.

Additionally, it was confirmed that the headset measures 143.8 mm x 69.5 mm x 7.3 mm at its thinnest point, and 8.5 mm at the thickest point. The headphone port is located on the top/left edge of the metal frame when looking at the device from the front, dropping any rumors that Google was set to follow in Apple’s footsteps by removing the headphone jack entirely.

As far as prices go, Google is rumored to be getting out of the less expensive phone business at this point. There is hearsay that the Pixel XL will be priced at $649, although it’s not clear if that will be for the 32GB or 128GB.

Lastly, AndroidPure leaked the photo below, complete with rear design and Google branding on the back, rather than Nexus.
