When a company announces a new product, it’s typically always thinner and lighter, but often that can make the device slightly worse.
However, HP is taking a different approach and unveiled a new version of its 15.6-inch Spectre x360, making the laptop slightly thicker and claiming an additional three hours of battery life.
Regarding thickness, the difference between the new x360 and the old x360 is minuscule — from 16.9 mm to 17.8 mm. The increase of 1.9 mm for the Spectre includes a battery that is 23% larger. Additionally, the laptop is narrower, with its body shrinking from 14.8 inches wide to 14 inches wide.
The extra three hours of battery life are not necessarily intended to make the laptop a long-lasting power device, but rather, to normalize its battery life. HP is selling the 15.6-inch x360 with a 4K display this year, which requires more power.
Boosting the laptop’s battery capacity allows its battery life to increase from 9.5 hours estimated on the 4K version of the 2016 model to approximately 12 hours and 45 minutes for the new one. While it is adding three hours of battery life, it’s matching the battery life of last year’s 1080p model.
The x360 will also be equipped with Intel’s Kaby Lake processors. It includes the following options: an i7 processor, 16GB of RAM, a 1TB SSD, and Nvidia GeForce 940MX graphics. Set to be released February 26, 2017, HP’s new Spectre x360 starts at $1,278.
