TE Connectivity (TE) has launched a waterproof on-board USB Type-C receptacle connector to help protect devices in harsh environments. The connector delivers IPX8 dust and water ingression performance, enabling the connector to maintain a reliable connection at a water depth of 1.5 meters for a minimum of 30 minutes. Applications include wearables, smartphones, appliances, medical devices, and automotive infotainment.
With added EMI protection and enhanced board retention, the USB Type-C connectors are rated for USB 3.1 performance and can transmit 10-Gbits/s data rates and 100 W of power at 5 A.
The connector supports a variety of different protocols. By using adapters, it is backwards-compatible to HDMI, VGA, DisplayPort, and other types of connections from the single USB Type-C port, said TE.
