RJ45 punch-down plugs reduce installation time

Eliminates tooling for easy field terminations

By Alex Pluemer, contributing writer

Stewart Connector, a Bel Group company, recently launched two new Cat6 and Cat6A RJ45 punch-down modular plugs , designed for quick and easy field terminations. Target applications include telecom, wireless, power over Ethernet (PoE) and industrial equipment.

The RJ45 punch-down plugs can terminate solid or stranded 23-26 AVG cable with a diameter over the conductor insulation of up to 1.6 mm and an overall cable outer diameter of 6 to 8 mm. An easy-to-use color-coded conductor pre-load wire manager enables efficient termination of Ethernet connections without the need for additional termination tooling.

The connectors feature contacts with 50 microinches of gold plating to increase cycle life. The zinc die-cast housing and latch protectors enable the connectors to withstand harsh environments.

The Cat6 punch-down plug is suitable for use in 1G Base-T networks, while the Cat6A is best suited for 10G Base-T networks.  Both plugs are apt solutions for both shielded and unshielded applications, and each plug kit comes with termination instructions.

Both products are available through Bel group company distributors Digi-Key , Mouser , Newark , Farnell and Heilind .
