The first TPM chip targeting industrial designs

Infineon’s security device protects communication within the smart factory and to the cloud

Infineon Technologies AG has unveiled a security chip that it calls the first Trusted Platform Module (TPM) specifically designed for industrial applications such as industrial PCs, servers, industrial controllers, and edge gateways. It acts as a vault for sensitive data in connected devices and lowers the risk of data theft due to cyberattacks.

The OPTIGA TPM SLM 9670 protects the integrity and identity of industrial systems by controlling access to sensitive data in key locations in industrial environments like automated factory. Moreover, it protects the interface to the cloud. The chip supports an extended temperature range of −40°C to 105°C and meets the stringent industrial requirements according to the JEDEC JESD47 standard.

The security chip fully meets the TPM 2.0 standard of the Trusted Computing Group and is certified by an independent test lab as per Common Criteria. More importantly, as the OPTIGA TPM SLM 9670 is audited and certified by Infineon, it shortens time to market and reduces the overall cost of industrial designs.

The TPM chip, with a service life of 20 years, also allows developers to carry out firmware updates, which, in turn, enables them to cope with long-term security requirements in rapidly evolving industrial environments. That way, it can also cut costs for maintenance of the industrial devices through secured remote software updates.

The TPM chip will be available in volume production in the second half of 2019.
