Vishay Intertechnology has released a new series of blue and true-green ultra-bright LEDs that come in compact untinted surface-mount packages with dome lenses. The company is targeting the VLD.1232.. series LEDs at traffic signals and signs, interior and exterior lighting, indicators and backlighting for audio and video equipment, LCD switches, and illuminated advertising.
The high-brightness LEDs employ the advanced InGaN/sapphire chip technology and offer a narrow emission angle of ±9° without the need for an external lens. That allows these compact LEDs to deliver extremely high brightness with a luminous intensity of up to 16,000 mcd typical.
The VLD.1232.. series LEDs are available in gullwing and reverse-gullwing versions and are luminous- and color-categorized per packing unit. These LEDs offer high luminous flux and can withstand ESD voltages of up to 2 kV as per the JESD22-A114-B ESD sensitivity testing standard.
The high-brightness LEDs are also compatible with reflow soldering processes as per the J-STD-020 standard, and they come in small 2.3 × 2.3 × 2.8-mm plastic cases. The VLD.1232.. series LEDs are available both as samples and production quantities with lead times of eight weeks. Pricing for U.S. delivery starts at $0.15 each.
