AFE integrates ADC for industrial process control

Analog Devices’ software-configurable analog front-end (AFE) with integrated ADC enables platform designs for lower cost and faster time to market, and makes them suitable for Industry 4.0 implementations

Analog Devices, Inc . released its software-configurable AD4110-1 , a universal input analog front-end (AFE) with an integrated 24-bit ADC for industrial process control systems. The AD4110-1 allows designers to design a “platform” input module that they can configure for multiple functions, which can reduce R&D cost, design resources, and time to market.

The high voltage inputs of the AD4110-1 are fully software configurable for current or voltage signals, which allows for a direct interface to all standard industrial analog signal sources. In addition to reducing the total cost of ownership, the software-configurable I/O eases implementation in Industry 4.0 application

Key features include:

  • Integrated, fully differential programmable gain amplifier (PGA) with 16 gain settings from 0.2 to 24
  • Internal, front-end diagnostic functions to indicate overvoltage, undervoltage, open wire, overcurrent, and overtemperature conditions.
  • The high-voltage input is thermally protected, overcurrent limited, and overvoltage protected.
