Integrated step-down regulators reduce component count

The highly integrated LTM4668 and LTM4668A regulators from Analog Devices Inc. reduce component count, board space, and power usage

By Gina Roos, editor-in-chief

Analog Devices, Inc . (ADI) has introduced the highly integrated LTM4668  and LTM4668A µModule regulators. These quad-output DC/DC regulators with up to 4.8-A output capability integrate switching controllers, power FETs, inductors, and support components. The high integration helps simplify the design process while reducing power consumption and board space. Target applications include telecom, networking, and industrial applications.

Operating over an input voltage range of 2.7 V to 17 V, the LTM4668 and LTM4668A step-down regulators support an output voltage range of 0.6 V to 5.5 V. They also support frequency synchronization, PolyPhase operation, selectable burst mode operation, 100% duty cycle, and low IQ operation. Their high switching frequency and a current mode architecture enable a very fast transient response to line and load changes without sacrificing stability, said ADI.

Other features include ±1.5% total output voltage regulation, and a 1.2-ADC parallelable output current on each channel. The output voltage range is 0.6 V to 1.8 V for the LTM4668 and 0.6 V to 5.5 V for the LTM4668A.

Available now, the LTM4668 and LTM4668A devices are housed in 6.25 × 6.25 × 2.1-mm BGA packages. ADI offers a power supply design program, LTpowerCAD , that helps designers select power components.
