Infineon Technologies AG has announced that its Silicon Valley Innovation Center (SVIC) has entered into a new agreement with startup Blumio to co-develop a wearable, non-invasive blood pressure sensor based on Infineon’s XENSIV radar chipset by 2021. The sensor, targeting wearable cardiovascular monitoring devices, will enable continuous and precise measurement without a cuff.
Leveraging Infineon’s 60-GHz radar chipset and system knowledge with Blumio’s expertise in cardiovascular health monitoring, the companies expect to deliver a development kit for consumer and medical wearable device makers to integrate into their blood-pressure−monitoring devices. The kit will combine Infineon’s radar chipset and development board with Blumio’s software and algorithms.
Infineon says that the new sensor has the potential to disrupt the wearable cardiovascular monitoring device market by enabling continuous and precise measurement without a cuff.
The SVIC will provide funding and resources to support the sensor’s commercialization, said Infineon. Leveraged resources will include Infineon’s engineering, manufacturing, and commercialization expertise, as well as office and laboratory space. This is part of Infineon’s work as an incubator to collaborate with startups to develop innovative technologies that solve problems.
