Vertical-mount high-current inductor improves efficiency, saves space

Vishay’s high-current inductor offers 50% lower DCR than typical power inductors for improved efficiency in high frequency DC/DC converters.

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. has introduced a high-current inductor that claims 50% lower direct current resistance (DCR) than typical power inductors for improved efficiency in high frequency DC/DC converters. Using materials and construction similar to the Vishay’s IHLP devices, the Vishay Dale IHVR-4024KE-51 also touts excellent saturation and temperature stability. In addition to the high current density, the power inductor also saves board space in a vertical-mount design in a 10 × 6 × 10 mm, 4024 case size.

Vishay high-current inductorThe inductor is optimized for energy storage in DC/DC converters up to 5 MHz and claims excellent attenuation of noise in high current filtering applications up to the SRF of the inductor. Applications include high current POL converters, battery-powered devices, distributed power systems, FPGAs, and servers and desktop PCs as well as multi-phase, high-current power supplies.

The high-current inductor offers high temperature operation up 155°C and is packaged in a 100% lead (Pb)-free shielded, composite construction that reduces buzz to ultra-low levels. Also RoHS-compliant, the inductor offers high resistance to thermal shock, moisture, and mechanical shock, and handles high transient current spikes without saturation, said Vishay.

Vishay also offers a selection of high-temperature inductors for automotive applications, including the Vishay Dale IHLP-1212AZ-5A , IHLP-1212BZ-A1, and IHLP-1212BZ-5A that are AEC-Q200 qualified and optimized for energy storage in DC/DC converters up to 5 MHz.

Samples and production quantities of the IHVR-4024KE-51 are available, with lead times of 12 weeks for large orders. Pricing for U.S. delivery starts at $0.40 each in quantities of 10,000.
