Targeting cost-sensitive e-mobility applications, Melexis has released the MLX91211 Hall-effect current-sensing IC in two variants. The current sensors provide a range of features and performance for applications such as belt-driven starter generators and traction inverters for low-speed electric vehicles and e-scooters. They also can be used in industrial applications such as electrified forklift trucks and pallet trucks.
The MLX91211LUA-ABT is factory-calibrated at three temperature points enabling increased accuracy for motor control in more demanding use cases. It offers high accuracy with sensitivity thermal drift better than 1.5%. The lowest-priced variant, the MLX91211LUA-ABA, with standard accuracy, addresses applications that have lower bandwidth and lower accuracy requirements.
Combined with a ferromagnetic core, the current sensors generate an analog output proportional to the current flowing in the cable or bus bar. The output signal provides a 40 kHz bandwidth and the sensor features a step response time below 10 µs.
Both devices are qualified to AEC-Q100 Grade 0, covering ambient temperatures from -40°C to 150°C for use in all automotive environments, including under the hood.
The MLX91211 series is available now in both TO92-3L (UA) through-hole and TSOT23-3L (SE) surface-mount packages.
Also targeting both automotive and industrial applications, Melexis recently launched the MLX90395 Triaxis Magnetometer Node, or 3D magnetic field sensor, an automotive-grade (AEC-Q100) Hall-effect sensor that provides contactless sensing in three dimensions.
