Ultra-thin, low-ESL MLCC targets in-vehicle ADAS applications

Murata has introduced an ultra-thin, low-ESL MLCC that helps achieve a lower impedance design for in-vehicle ADAS applications.

Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. has released an ultra-thin LW reversed, low equivalent series inductor (ESL) multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) for 4 VDC-rated automotive applications that helps lower that impedance. As advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) evolve to increase safety and in the future deliver self-driving vehicles, ICs for in-vehicle equipment have become increasingly high-performance, which challenges designers to lower the power supply lines’ impedance, said Murata.

Murata automotive-grade lowe-ESL MLCCTargeting in-vehicle ADAS applications, the LLC152D70G105ME01 decoupling, measuring 0.5 × 1.0 mm with a maximum thickness of 0.22 mm, can be implemented on the back of a processor package. This contributes to lower impedance on a power supply line, thanks to the company’s proprietary thin layer technology for ceramic elements and thin-sheet formation technology, said Murata. The AEC-Q100 compliant MLCC can also sit close to the main processor on the motherboard.

In addition, the LW reverse construction flips the electrodes by 90° so they are positioned on the long side of the rectangular chip. This reverses the length-to-width ratio, providing noise suppression in high-frequency applications, said Murata.

Key specs include a capacitance value of 1.0 µF ±20%, an operating temperature range of  -55℃ to 125℃ as well as RoHS and REACH compliance. The MLCC is in mass production.
