Nexperia claims first 80-V RETs for 48-V automotive

Nexperia has released a family of 80-V RETs, or digital transistors, that can handle spikes and pulses in 48-V automotive applications.

Nexperia has claimed the industry’s first 80-V resistor-equipped transistor (RET) family. These new 80-V RETs, or digital transistors, are designed for 48-V automotive board net (mild hybrids and electric vehicles) and other higher voltage circuits that are often subjected to large spikes and pulses that previous 50-V parts cannot handle, said the company.

80-V RETsBy combining the bias resistor and bias-emitter resistor in the same SOT23 (250 mW Ptot) or SOT323 (235 mW Ptot) package as the transistor, these RET devices save space and reduce manufacturing costs. Nexperia also offers double RETs (two transistors and two matching bias resistors and bias-emitter resistors) that are available in the SOT363 package with a Ptot of 350 mW for greater integration and savings.

The new series (NHDTx and NHUMx) includes 42 parts with PNP/NPN combinations. These come with the same bias resistor combinations as Nexperia’s 50-V parts. The AEC-Q101-approved devices have a 100 mA current capability.

In addition to 48-V automotive circuit driver applications, these high-voltage devices can be used in general-purpose switching and amplification and other digital systems. The 80-V RETs in SOT23, SOT323 and SOT363 are available now.

Nexperia offers about 400 single and dual RETs in a variety of resistor combinations in both surface-mount and leaded packages. These devices offer 100 mA, 500 mA, and up to 800 mA output current capability. Key applications include controlling IC inputs, digital systems, and switching loads in automotive, industrial, and communications applications. Integrated bias resistors offer a +/-10% resistance ratio tolerance.
