Taiwan Semiconductor has launched the GBU150x family of standard bridge rectifiers with higher peak reverse voltage and surge current ratings that provide increased safety margins for universal input power conversion designs. The 15-A rated bridge rectifier family, housed in a standard GBU package, also can help designers meet regulatory standards, such as IEC61000-4-x and IEEE C62.XX ringing waveform requirements, in a range of mains-connected power conversion products.
The 15A-rated bridge rectifiers are available with peak repetitive reverse voltage ratings (VRRM) from 600 V to 1000 V and a 1.0 ms peak forward surge current (IFSM) of 600 A. In addition, the standard GBU package enables the devices to be drop-in upgrades for existing GBU sockets from 50 V to 1000 V.
The GBU150x family also offers a cost advantage with the highest rated 1-KV device available at the same price as lower-rated parts, said Taiwan Semi.
“Since higher-voltage bridge rectifiers typically are more expensive, engineers trained to optimize price and performance will select 600-V or 800-V PIV devices to achieve cost targets,” said vice president, TSC Products, Sam Wang, in a statement. “The GBU1507, with an industry-leading 1000-V PIV rating, is offered at the same price as the lower-voltage-rated parts in the series. This gives engineers a cost-effective opportunity to adding safety margin for new designs as well as upgrading existing GBU sockets.”
The GBU150x bridge rectifier family is UL-Recognized, RoHS compliant, and halogen-free per IEC-61249-2-21. Applications include switch-mode power supplies (SMPS), battery chargers, lighting power supplies, TVs, and adapters. Click here for the datasheet.
