High-power resistors deliver lower TCR

The Bourns Model CRG2512 high-power resistors deliver lower TCR to help increase reliability for optimal inrush current limiting.

Bourns, Inc. has released the Model CRG2512 series of high-power resistors with a metal strip resistive element that offers “excellent” pulse load capability and low temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR). These features help increase resistor reliability for optimal inrush current limiting, said the company. They can be used for capacitors, hot swaps, and snubber circuits in a range of current sensing, power supply, stepper motor drive and input amplifier applications.

Bourns' Model CRG2512 Series of high-power resistors.The Model CRG2512 Series, available in a 2512 (6432 metric) surface-mount package, offers a power rating of 1 or 2 watts, a TCR as low as ±50 ppm/°C, and an operating temperature range from 55 ℃ to 170°C. Thanks to their metal resistive element construction, these current sense chip resistors are said to provide very low inductance, low noise, and excellent reliability in a wide range of resistance values from 110 to 680 milliohms. Other specs include an insulation resistance of >100 MΩ and inductance of ≤ 5 nH.

Surface-mount metal strip chip resistors, designed for current sensing applications, “detect and convert current to an easily measured voltage, which is proportional to the current through the device,” said Bourns. “Current sense resistors are growing in popularity due to their high measurement accuracy and relatively low cost compared to other technologies.”

Available now, the Model CRG2512 resistors are sulfur-resistant, RoHS compliant, and halogen free.
