Littelfuse, Inc. has introduced its family of SMTOAK2 TVS diodes in a SMTO-263 surface-mount (SM) package that is 50% smaller than SMTO-218 SM solutions. They provide protection against lightening strikes, inductive kick, and other transient surges.
The TVS diodes offer ESD protection of data lines in accordance with IEC 61000-4-2, 30 kV (Air), 30 kV (Contact). They provide a fast response time of typically less than 1.0 ps from 0 volts to VBR minimum.
Typically, high-power, high-surge rating TVS diodes are only available in axial leaded packages, said Littelfuse. The compact 2-kA 8/20 μs rated SMTOAK2 TVS diode series in a SMTO-263 package offers a more robust transient voltage, overvoltage protection, and lightning protection system while using less printed circuit board (PCB) space, said the company.
The TVS diodes are suited for high-density applications. These range from ICT, medical and industrial DC power supplies and SiC and GaN-based DC/DC converters/power supplies to power-over-Ethernet ports and small cell/micro cell as well as remote radio units and baseband units.
Applications include protecting high-current and high-speed MOSFET/IGBT circuits from inductive kicks with low clamping voltage and high surge rating, said Littelfuse
The SMTOAK2 TVS diode series is available in tape and reel in quantities of 500 via Littelfuse’s global authorized distributors. They are compatible with automated PCB assembly processes. The devices are halogen free and RoHS compliant.
