Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. has launched a new series of screw-terminal aluminum electrolytic capacitors with a range of capacitance/voltage (C/V) combinations from 56,000 µF at 200 V to 15,000 µF at 450 V. The Vishay BCcomponents 202 PML-ST series of aluminum capacitors are available in 11 case sizes from 35 × 60 mm to 90 × 220 mm.
Designed to help designers to pack more energy storage into less space, these new aluminum electrolytic capacitors offer high C/V values in smaller case sizes than previous solutions. One example cited is a new aluminum capacitor with a C/V rating of 2,200 µF/400 V in a 50 × 105-mm case size, compared to a previously available 65 × 105 mm case size.
For C/V ratings with a similar case size to previous-generation solutions, the capacitors also offer improved ripple current and equivalent series resistance (ESR), said Vishay. One example cited is a device with a C/V rating of 4700 µF/400 V with 12% higher ripple current and 16% lower ESR.
The 202 PML-ST series of aluminum capacitors provide increased ripple current to 49.6 A, lower ESR down to 2 mΩ, and a useful life of 10,000 hours at 85°C. Ripple current at 100 Hz and 85°C ranges from 2.69 A to 49.6 A.
The polarized aluminum electrolytic capacitors with a non-solid electrolyte feature a cylindrical aluminum case insulated with a blue sleeve and pressure relief in their sealing disc. They are suited for filtering, buffering, and energy storage in pulsed power applications with a required lifetime of 10 to 15 years, said Vishay.
Applications include industrial motor drives, rail traction for trains and subways, welding equipment, HVAC, UPS, wind turbines and solar power inverters, and medical X-ray equipment. The capacitors are RoHS compliant.
Samples are available from catalog distributors in small quantities. Production quantities are available now with lead times of 18 to 20 weeks.
