High-side switch drives 12-V automotive loads

Diodes Inc.’s new automotive-compliant high-side switch with protection and diagnostic capabilities delivers high power in a small package.

Diodes Inc. has launched its first protected, automotive-compliant, high-side IntelliFET. The ZXMS81045SPQ high-side switch is capable of delivering high power in a small footprint and features a range of protection and diagnostic capabilities. The device can drive 12-V automotive loads, such as LEDs, bulbs, actuators and motors in automotive body control and lighting systems.

The ZXMS81045SPQ high-side power switch features a 41 V-rated N-channel FET with onboard circuitry that provides protection against short circuits, undervoltage and overvoltage conditions including load dumps. The device also features overtemperature protection with auto-restart and electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection and manages inrush currents.

Loss of ground and reverse polarity protection also can be implemented with the addition of a few external components, said the company.

Diagnostic capabilities include a dedicated current sense (IS) pin that provides precision analog current monitoring of the output and fault indication for short to battery, short to ground and open load detection.

The ZXMS81045SPQ can be used as a smaller footprint alternative to relays, fuses and discrete circuits, said Diodes Inc. “It is also a form, fit, and functional equivalent for existing power switch devices, where customers need improved product supply,” added the company.

The ZXMS81045SPQ, housed in a SO-8EP package, is qualified to AEC-Q100. It is priced at $0.95 in quantities of 2,500.
