LDO addresses 12-V and 24-V automotive systems

The Diodes AP7387Q LDO with a wide input voltage range can operate in both 12-V and 24-V automotive systems.

Diodes Inc. has developed a new low dropout (LDO) linear voltage regulator with a wide input voltage of 5 V to 60 V. The  AP7387Q LDO, thanks to the wide input voltage, meets the load dump specifications of 12-V internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles such as cars and 24-V ICEs such as buses, coaches and trucks. It offers a point-of-load (PoL) solution for automotive audio, navigation, taillights, transmission control units and battery management systems.

The LDO delivers a maximum output current of 150 mA and a dropout voltage of 700 mV (typical) at a 100-mA output current. In addition, it features a low quiescent current of 2 µA, which is said to be lower than many competing devices. A low quiescent current is essential in systems that are permanently connected to a battery, helping to extend runtime, said Diodes.

The LDO also provides a high-power supply rejection ratio (PSRR) of 70 dB at 1 kHz, making it optimized for noise-sensitive functions. It also offers a fast line/load transient response against rapid changes to the input voltage or load current, said the company.
The AP7387Q LDOs are AEC-Q100 Grade 1 qualified. They are available in 3-V, 3.3-V, 3.6-V and 5-V fixed output voltage versions in the SOT89 and U-DFN2020-6 (SWP) (Type UXC) packages. The AP7387Q-XXY-13 (SOT89) is priced at $0.67 and the AP7387Q-XXFDCW-7 (U-DFN2020-6 (SWP) (Type UXC)) at $0.80, in quantities of 1,000.
