6-DoF IMU targets autonomous vehicles and ADAS

Aceinna’s 6-DoF IMU with Ethernet and CAN-FD Interfaces provides high accuracy, low latency, precise localization and safety.

Aceinna Inc. has announced that its automotive-grade IMU330RA high-performance inertial measurement unit (IMU) is now available. Designed for developers of autonomous vehicles, self-driving taxis, delivery vehicles and ADAS systems, the 6-DoF (degrees of freedom) IMU is housed in a ruggedized and sealed over-molded plastic housing at an IP69K level. The device is ASIL B certified and can be used in automotive Level 3 and higher ADAS systems.

Key features include redundant three-axis accelerometer and three-axis rate gyroscope sensors for accuracy and reliability, 1 degree/hour bias instability and 0.1 degree/square-root-hour angular random walk, a 1000-Hz update rate with low latency and an operating temperature range of -40°C to 105°C. Other features include 1000Base-T1 automotive Ethernet and CAN-FD interfaces, encrypted software updates and communication with an on-board hardware security module (HSM).

The IMU also supports gPtP 802.1AS:2020-time synchronization and supports Unified Diagnostic Services (UDS), as defined in ISO 14229-1 and 14229-5 over Ethernet and CAN.

The company’s inertial products are designed for high-precision and open-source development. Fully temperature calibrated, the IMUs work with multiple perception sensors including LiDAR, cameras, radar and odometry so that the vehicle remains on the right path. If perception sensors fail for reasons such as location or environmental challenges, the IMU keeps the vehicle on its path until data from the sensors re-engages or the vehicle comes to a safe stop, said Aceinna.

Evaluation kits are available. The hardware evaluation kit includes an IMU330RA and interface cable, while the IMU330R-A-SW software evaluation kit provides an easy-to-use graphical interface to configure, display, record, playback and analyze all the IMU330RA system parameters.
