Plastic enclosures withstand harsh environments

There are many environments that require protection for electronics used in rugged industrial and outdoor settings. Addressing the need, OKW Enclosures, Inc. has launched its new SOLID-BOX plastic enclosures for desktop and wall-mount electronics that can be used in challenging industrial and outdoor locations. These enclosures can be used in a range of applications including plant and machine construction, HVAC, IoT/IIoT, smart factory/Industry 4.0, gateways, data loggers, ICT, electrical installations, measurement and control, agriculture and farming, sensor systems and safety engineering.

The rust-proof SOLID-BOX enclosures provide IP 66/67 ingress and IK 08 impact protection. Key features include a highly polished enclosure surface and a flush-fitting snap-on trim design to conceal fixing screws and Torx lid. Screw channels under the trims enable a concealed wall mount. All the fixings are outside the sealed interior, and the enclosures can be installed lid closed, protecting the seal and electronics, said OKW.

A recess on the lid can accommodate a large membrane keypad or product label, while two deeply recessed areas on the bottom section protect connectors, switches and other interfaces.

SOLID-BOX is available in three sizes: 115 (5.31 × 4.53 × 1.97 inches), 145 (7.09 ×  5.71 ×  2.36 inches) and 175 (8.86 ×  6.89 ×  2.76 inches). The mounting points on the rear for sizes 145 and 175 match the hole patterns of VESA MIS-D 75/100.

The enclosures are constructed of flame-retardant PC+ABS-FR (UL 94 V-0) material with increased heat distortion temperature (Vicat/B 120 = 110°C) and provide chlorine- and bromine-free flame resistance. They are available in two colors – anthracite grey (RAL 7016) or light grey (RAL 7035). Accessories include top panel retainers, internal hinges, non-slip feet for desktop use and self-tapping screws. Compatible cable glands (M12 to M20) and cable bushings are also available.

The SOLID-BOX portfolio can be fully customized. Services include CNC machining, printing and laser marking of logos and legends, decor foils, RFI/EMI shielding and installation/assembly of accessories. Custom special colors and materials are available.
