TVS diodes offer up to 80% space savings

Littelfuse, Inc. has launched its LTKAK2-L Series of surface-mount, high-power TVS diodes, targeting market demand for automated PCB assembly process-compatible devices with a high surge rating. These devices deliver circuit protection for high-power AC and DC applications.

Compatible with automated PCB assembly processes, the smaller solution in a modified SMTO-218 package allows designers to achieve robust circuit protection with less PCB space than the available axial-leaded solutions, said Littelfuse. The LTKAK2-L can replace either four or eight 15-KPA or 30-KPA axial-leaded TVS diodes, saving 60% and 80% of PCB space, respectively. (Watch the video.)

“This new product helps solve the key problem of high surge rating TVS diodes being in larger sized, axial-leaded packages, which are not compatible with automated PCB assembly processes,” said Ben Huang, senior product marketing manager at Littelfuse, in a statement.

The 2-kA surge current rating enables designs to comply with IEC-61000-4-5 Level 4 requirements, which protects high-reliability AC and DC power supplies and their applications. Other applications include information communication technology, industrial, avionics and high-power converters/power supplies.
The LTKAK2-L Series is available in 25-count tube packs in minimum quantities of 100. Samples are available through authorized Littelfuse distributors worldwide.
