Bourns, Inc. has expanded its next generation of gas discharge tube (GDT) series with the addition of a high voltage 2-electrode overvoltage protector family. The Model GDT28H Series is designed for use in powerline equipment for general industrial use.
The company’s next generation of GDTs feature improved impulse voltage protection and higher surge ratings to meet increased market demand as susceptibility to surges increased with smaller components, requiring smaller and more effective overvoltage protection solutions.
A key advantage of the Model GDT28H is its suitability for use in AC isolation solutions, Bourns said, enabling electrical and electronic equipment to meet electrical safety standards such as IEC 62368-1. This is thanks to a combination of features, including an extended operating voltage range, high insulation resistance and heightened surge rate.
In addition, the Model GDT28H series is housed in a compact 8 ×6-mm form factor, offering the same level of protection as a larger component, Bourns said. It also is rated for a wider operating temperature range (-40°C to 125°C), making it suited for applications in certain harsh conditions. Capacitance is rated at <1.5 pF and the DC breakdown voltage range is 1,000-3,300 V.
The 2-electrode high-voltage GDTs are available now. They are RoHS compliant and UL recognized. Click here for the datasheet.
Earlier this year, Bourns introduced the 3-electrode surface-mount GDT family. The Model GDT35 series offers “breakthrough” overvoltage surge arrestor performance.
