THine intros 13-MP PDAF camera kit

PDAF camera kit eases design efforts for integrating THine imaging capabilities with MediaTek Genio SoCs for IoT and AI devices.

THine Solutions, Inc. has introduced the new THEIA-CAM 13-megapixel (MP) phase detection autofocus (PDAF) camera, the THSCP101. It delivers high-resolution image streaming for AI and IoT edge processing platforms with OLogic’s Pumpkin i350 and Pumpkin i500 evaluation kits (EVKs), powered by MediaTek Genio 350 and Genio 500 system on chips (SoCs), respectively.

The lower cost, mid-range Pumpkin i350 and high-end i500 EVK platforms are designed for mainstream AI + IoT applications that require vision and voice edge processing, such as facial, object, gesture, motion recognition, LPR, voice activation and speed recognition, sound isolation and bio-tech and biometric measurements.

The THSCP101 Kit, which interfaces with the Pumpkin EVKs, is based on THine’s THP7312-P image signal processor (ISP) and Sony’s IMX258 13MP CMOS PDAF image sensor. Providing everything needed to interface with the EVKs, key features include a single 1.38” × 1.38” camera board housed in an acrylic case, a flat flexible cable, an adaptor board supporting two MIPI CSI-2 ports of the Pumpkin EVK and software driver to stream and control images.

Easy setup is achieved using a Video4Linux2 (V4L2) driver to control a variety of video functions and a libcamera middleware stack for integration into the complete MediaTek Genio SDK.

THine’s ISP firmware delivers ultra-quick autofocus using PDAF. Repeatable performance makes it possible to use the solution in high volume production, thanks to the company’s production process for characterizing image parameters of each image sensor and calibrating the image signal processing to compensate for any sensor-to-sensor variation. High-resolution options include 13 MP at 20 fps, 4K2K at 30 fps, and 1080p at 60 fps, all in YUV422 format.

All Linux files and reference circuit schematics are available. For customers who need unique image performance features, a GUI-based software development tool to customizes the ISP firmware is also available. The THSCP101 is currently available at OLogic’s online store and Digi-Key.
