Miniature TMR sensors deliver enhanced sensitivity

Littelfuse’s TMR sensors provide enhanced sensitivity and power efficiency for appliances, home and building automation and industrial applications.

Littelfuse, Inc. has launched the 54100 and 54140 miniature omnipolar tunnel magnetoresistance (TMR) effect sensors. The company claims the TMR sensors deliver unmatched sensitivity and power efficiency and will revolutionize magnetic sensing.

Key features of the sensors include the combination of high sensitivity and 100× improvement in power efficiency when compared to Hall-effect sensors. Rather than activation of the traditional z-axis, the sensors offer activation in the x-y plane, resulting in greater functionality. They offer a wide operating temperature range of -40°C to 100°C. Applications include position and limit sensing, RPM measurement, flow metering, commutation of brushless DC motors, magnetic encoders and angle sensing.

The 54100 flange-mount sensor, measuring 25.5 × 11.0 × 3.0 mm, allows for screw and adhesive mounting for easy installation. It has a 3-wire configuration and digital output and can switch up to 4.4 VDC and 3.0 mA output current. Sensor lead lengths of 300 mm and 1,000 mm are available and customization for high-volume production is available. Sensor leads may be used as is or can be modified for a variety of connections.

The 54140 flat-pack sensor is housed in a compact package, measuring 23.00 × 14.00 × 5.90 mm. It also features a digital output, three-wire configuration, and the same performance as the 54100.

The 54100 and 54140 sensors are available in bulk quantities of 500. Sample requests can be placed with Littelfuse distributors.
