Reference design demos USB PD 3.1 up to 240 W

The Arrow and Infineon 240-W USB PD 3.1 reference design targets high-power and fast-charging applications.

Arrow Electronics, Inc. and Infineon Technologies AG have launched a 240-W USB Power Delivery (PD) 3.1 reference design board for applications that require high-power capabilities. The latest USB PD standard supports up to 240 W with Extended Power Range (EPR). The new design demonstrates the USB PD 3.1 EPR software and schematics implementation example that achieves up to a 240-W power sink from a single USB source.

The reference design extends existing power-sink capabilities of Infineon’s EZ-PD PMG1 family of high-voltage microcontrollers from 140 W up to 240 W, which is important in power-demanding and fast-charging applications, Arrow said. These include light electric vehicles (eBikes, eScooters and personal mobility devices), drones and mobile robots, professional AV equipment, power tools, medical equipment, home appliances and home entertainment devices.

The 240-W sink reference design board (REF_ARIF240WS3), supporting up to 48 V@ 5 A Power Delivery Object sink mode, complements the recently released Infineon USB PD3.1 source evaluation board (REF_XDPS2222_240W1). Together, they offer a complete 240-W USB PD3.1 source-sink solution.

Both sink and source reference designs are available on request. The new USB PD 3.1 reference design will be showcased by Arrow at Embedded World 2024, April 9-11, hall/stand 4A-342.
