Variscite launches i.MX 95-based SOM

Variscite will demo its new NXP iMX 95-based DART-MX95 SOM for high-end edge computing at Embedded World.

Variscite will launch its new DART-MX95 system on module (SOM) with NXP Semiconductors at Embedded World 2024. It will include the first demonstration of this new NXP iMX 95-based SOM for high-end edge computing. The DART-MX95 platform, based on NXP’s i.MX 95 family of applications processor, targets medical, industrial automation, robotics, smart city/factory, test and measurement, security, HMI and vision-integrated applications.

The DART-MX95 SOM offers AI/ML acceleration, 2D/3D graphics and multimedia, advanced security and safety features, energy-flex architecture to conserve power and connectivity options for high-speed communications. Key features include up to 6× 2.0-GHz Arm Cortex-A55, an 800-MHz Arm Cortex-M7 and a 250-MHz Arm Cortex-M33. High-speed interfaces include 2× USB 3.0/2.0, 2× GbE and 2× PCIe. Certifications include 802.11ax/ac/a/b/g/n, 802.15.4 and Bluetooth/Bluetooth Low Energy 5.3.

The company’s 2024 product road map includes the release of additional SOMs based on NXP’s application processors. These include the VAR-SOM-MX91 and DART-MX91 based on the NXP i.MX 91 processor, launching later this year simultaneously with NXP. These SOMs support cost-optimized devices and applications with rugged features such as industrial-grade temperature tolerance, energy-flex architecture and built-in security options.

Also on the road map is the DART-MX93, based on the i.MX 93 processor. All of the upcoming modules are pin-compatible with Variscite’s VAR-SOM/ DART Pin2Pin product families that provide scaling between platforms with the same carrier board design. The Pin2Pin SOM extends lifespan, and reduces product development time, costs and risk, Variscite said.

The company will demonstrate its SOM lineup, including the DART-MX95, VAR-SOM-MX93, DART-MX8M-PLUS, DART-MX8M-MINI and DART-6UL, at Embedded World, booth 4A-342.
