Compact oscilloscope offers up to 2-GHz bandwidth

Rohde & Schwarz launches the MXO 5C series oscilloscope without an integrated display, targeting rack-mount applications.

Rohde & Schwarz has announced the new MXO 5C oscilloscope series, addressing space limitations inherent in rack mount and automated test system applications. The new 2U-high oscilloscope/digitizer series delivers the same specifications as the company’s MXO 5 series, but in a compact form factor.

With a vertical height of only 3.5-inches (8.9 cm), a fourth of the vertical height of the MXO 5, the scope not only addresses space constraints, but also can be used in applications where users need many channels in a small volume. It is the company’s first oscilloscope without an integrated display.

Key features of the series include operation via an integrated web interface, or interaction exclusively via programmatically using it as a high-speed digitizer. It also features an integrated e-ink display, claimed as the first scope to offer this technology, which provides key formation such as connectivity status and IP address.

The series builds on the company’s next-generation MXO-EP processing ASIC technology. The company claims it provides the fastest acquisition capture rate in the world, up to 4.5 million acquisitions per second. This enables engineers to capture up to 99% real-time signal activity and observe more signal details and infrequent events. It can also be used as a stand-alone bench oscilloscope by attaching an external display via the built-in DisplayPort and HDMI connectors or accessing the instrument’s GUI via a web interface by typing in the oscilloscope’s IP address into the browser.

The MXO 5C series is available in four- and eight-channel models. Bandwidth ranges include 100 MHz, 200 MHz, 350 MHz, 500 MHz, 1 GHz and 2 GHz. A variety of upgrade options are also available. The MXO 5C oscilloscopes are currently available direct from Rohde & Schwarz and through selected distribution channel partners.
