Varistors deliver higher surge current protection

KOA Speer’s NV73S series of multilayer metal-oxide varistors provide surge current protection up to 6,000 A.

KOA Speer Electronics has launched the NV73S series of multilayer metal-oxide varistors, which handles a surge current of up to 6,000 A, claiming five times higher protection than existing products. The NV73S replaces the NV732E series, from 1210 to 2220 (2L) sizes, due to its improved surge protection.

Thanks to their multilayer construction, these varistors can absorb a large surge despite their small size, according to the company, and the two-way symmetries can absorb positive and negative surges.

Available in 1210, 1812 and 2220 sizes, the NV73S varistor series offers maximum peak current and sizes of 400 A to 800 A (1210), 500 A to 1,200 A (1812) and 1,500 A to 6,000 A (2220) with a working voltage range of 6 VAC to 95 VAC and 9 VDC to 127 VDC. The voltage range is 12 V to 150 V. The operating temperature range is -50°C to 125°C and the storage temperature is -50°C to 150°C.

These metal-oxide varistors offer protection from electrostatic discharge and electromagnetic interference for electronic devices. They also provide surge protection for motors, relays and solenoid valves.

The NV73S varistor series meets EU RoHS requirements. The series is suited for both flow and reflow soldering.

Lead time for the NV73S series is 10 weeks. Samples are available on request.
