Eaton has launched its new Heavy-Duty SmartRack enclosures in North America. These enclosures target the growing physical requirements of generative-AI computing infrastructure in enterprise, colocation and hyperscale data centers.
GPU servers are larger and heavier than traditional CPU servers due to the need for increased computing power, Eaton said, and the new Heavy-Duty SmartRack enclosures are purpose-built to support larger and heavier AI services and critical IT infrastructure.

The Heavy-Duty SmartRack enclosures are available in a variety of specifications. They have weight capacities up to 5,000 lb. static (3,500 lb. dynamic), with 54-inch-deep enclosures to house large AI servers along with high-density rack power distribution units (PDUs), uninterruptible power supplies (UPSs), cooling, cables and other accessories.
Models and specifications are tailored for different height, weight and depth requirements. The floor-standing enclosures are available in 42U, 45U and 48U models, with options for deep, extra-deep and/or wide enclosures. The extra-deep 54-inch options target AI servers that do not fit in standard enclosures. Wide options have side channels for accessory mounting, cable routing and airflow. They also offer perforated front and split rear doors for airflow through the rack.
The frame is constructed of 2.5-mm thick steel with reinforced structural elements and feature upgraded casters and levelers that support the extra weight of AI servers. The enclosures feature a glacier white, powder-coated finish to provide better visibility in high-density environments for equipment installation, maintenance and cable/port identification, Eaton said.
The Heavy-Duty SmartRack enclosures are part of Eaton’s modular build program. The program offers quick delivery of custom enclosure configurations and enclosure bundles with cable management, power management and other features. These new enclosures are available now.
